The Research Centre for the Christian East is partnered with the Faculty of Theology at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt. It is tasked with independent scientific research and teaching. It initiates, coordinates and organizes, as far as possible, cooperation with domestic and foreign, but especially Oriental universities, institutions, specialists, research projects and courses in the field of the Christian East. It is particularly interested in all aspects of ecclesiastical and social life of Oriental Christians, from the beginnings to the present. Its work covers the geographical area from Ethiopia to Georgia and from the Eastern Mediterranean to India and East Asia. The Research Centre also supports students from the countries concerned. The aims of the Research Centre include contributing to a better understanding of the situation and concerns of Christians in the Orient in science and society.
