Mobility-related greenhouse gases account for more than two-thirds of the KU’s total emissions. Promoting more sustainable mobility for staff and students is therefore one of the key challenges on the path to becoming a climate-neutral University.
For the KU, as a University in a rural area with two campuses, the daily commuting of University members — which involves a high proportion of private motorized transport — represents a significant source of emissions.
As a University with international networks in research and teaching, travel abroad is also an integral part of academic operations. The KU’s internationalization profile makes an important contribution to the exchange of knowledge, intercultural understanding, and international dialog — and thus helps promote peace, strong institutions, and partnerships in line with the Sustainable Development Goals.
At the same time, this creates conflicting goals with regard to climate protection, as international air travel in particular generates large amounts of climate-damaging emissions. The development and implementation of sustainable mobility concepts is therefore essential for achieving climate goals.
That is why the KU aims to create offerings and provide information on opportunities that support staff and students in using more environmentally friendly modes of transportation.
The following offers are currently available:

X80 Express Bus Eichstätt–Ingolstadt:

Job Ticket:
The use of public transportation for the daily commute is financially supported by the KU. Employees receive a subsidy of 200 euros for an annual ticket or 100 euros for a semi-annual ticket (“Job Ticket”).
Detailed information can be found on the HR department’s intranet website.
Deutschlandticket:
The Deutschlandticket is often the most cost-effective way to use public transportation easily and affordably for both business and personal travel. Unfortunately, the Bavarian Travel Expenses Act currently does not allow for subsidies for the Deutschlandticket; however, the ticket still offers easy access to public transportation services.
Bicycle parking options on campus:
The KU considers itself a bicycle-friendly University and is continuously expanding its on-campus bicycle infrastructure. Numerous new bicycle parking options provide a secure place to park your bike during work hours. Additional bicycle-friendly measures, such as the expansion of shower facilities and lockable bicycle garages, are currently in the planning stages. One goal for 2026 is for the KU to receive its first certification as a bicycle-friendly employer.
E-bike leasing for employees:
Through the “Rad im Dienst” initiative, the KU offers its employees attractive leasing options for e-bikes. For more information, visit the intranet and search for “bicycle leasing.”
Electric vehicle charging stations:
The KU’s electric vehicle charging stations in Eichstätt and Ingolstadt are available to students and staff for charging their electric vehicles. At the Ingolstadt campus, the charging station is located in the parking lot by the new building; in Eichstätt, charging stations are available in the parking lot near the University Library and in the cafeteria parking lot. For more information on terms of use and locations, visit www.ku.de/die-ku/organisation/administration/facility-management/e-tankstellen-und-ladestationen

Vehicle reservations are made through the Sozialwerk.
goFlux:
The mobility app goFlux is supported by the Ingolstadt Regional Transport Association (VGI) and offers a platform for carpooling. The goal is to offer all trips made by car as carpooling opportunities to interested parties, thereby making private transportation more efficient.
Dienstreisepolicy:
