The "Guidelines of Good Leadership at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt" were adopted by the University Council, Senate and University Management in 2022. They apply to all persons in science and administration who have management responsibility. You can find the guideline and further information on its implementation here.
Would you like to (re)organize the tasks and collaboration in your team or build a new team? Would you like to develop further in your role as a manager and/or supervisor of qualification work and use employee management tools (feedback meetings, development meetings, target agreement meetings) in a professional and efficient manner?
As an experienced professor, you may ask yourself how you can create a healthy balance between your own (research) goals, projects and expectations of staff on the one hand and the expectations and support needs of your staff on the other. You may also want to make your own actions as a manager and supervisor of qualification work more transparent within the team and thus delegate responsibility to your employees.
As an HR development specialist, it is my job to support you in precisely these questions and concerns. There are many possible solutions: a kind of "target agreement" for the entire professorship/chair, a workshop with the entire team to organize work processes, (internal or external) one-to-one coaching or a training offer that is tailored specifically to your needs. Just get in touch!
Important note: The University Management has passed a guideline on team development and team building measures, which is intended to provide managers in academia and administration with guidance on which measures are supported by the KU and to what extent. The guideline and the application form can be found here.
Coaching can be understood as a process-oriented support format, or in other words: Coaching is temporary process support. The coach takes responsibility for the process while the coachee takes responsibility for the content and goals of the coaching. So you could say that coaching is "guidance without advice" (Sonja Radatz), encourages self-reflection and offers the opportunity to work on current challenges in a professional and confidential setting.
Coaching can be an ideal form of support, especially for you as a professor, as it is tailored exclusively to your individual needs: You determine the content(s), objective(s), duration and format. This also makes it easier to integrate coaching into your everyday research and teaching practice.
Possible topics that you may want to address with coaching might be:
Coaching is completely confidential and takes place in a personal on-site meeting or digitally (e.g. via Zoom). The initial consultation serves to clarify your concerns and formulate a "goal". You and your coach then decide whether you want to work together.
A coaching session usually lasts about 90 minutes. A coaching process can take up to 5 appointments. Please note, however, that there should be sufficient time between the individual appointments so that what we have worked out together can also be applied and "take effect".
If you are interested in coaching, I can accompany you through the process a trained coach or, of course, I am also happy to put you in touch with external coaches.
We offer free internal seminars on the topics of leadership and collaboration. Further training on special topics from everyday teaching (e.g. voice training, e-learning didactics) is also part of our KU-internal offer.
You can find the range of KU-internal training courses sorted by areas of expertise here.
If you cannot find the specific topic you are interested in, please do not hesitate to contact us.
If required, we can also arrange external management training courses or special seminars and organize for you that these are held internally at the KU if there is sufficient demand.
Relevant providers in the higher education sector include the German University Association, the Center for Science Management and the Center for Higher Education Development. The Bavarian Virtual University also offers free online courses.
The International DAAD Academy offers special training courses on the topic of internationalization: Regional and intercultural skills, specialist language courses, sustainability and digitalization in the context of internationalization, university marketing and much more.
Please note that you must submit an application for approval of a professional development trip for external training courses. You can find the application form on the intranet under "Personal von A bis Z" (keyword: Dienst- und Fortbildungsreisen).
In addition to attending special manager training seminars, reading relevant specialist literature can provide valuable support. In our literature collection you will find selected titles on the topics of "employee management" and "work organization" in a university context.
To make your start at the KU as easy as possible, I warmly invite you to contact me. In a personal meeting, I will introduce you to the wide range of continuing education and professional training opportunities available at the KU and what support you can expect in your role as a professor, but also as a manager and supervisor of qualification theses. I look forward to hearing from you!
Did you know? Newly appointed female professors receive additional support from the federal government's Women Professors Program (Professorinnenprogramm). You will be informed of this directly by the University's Women and Equal Opportunity Officer (Prof. Dr. Kathrin Schlemmer) when you are appointed.
The KU has a wide range of offers and services around the topic of health and wellbeing.
