Lea Gelardi studied International Sociology at the KU Eichstätt-Ingolstadt and at the Università degli Studi di Trento in Trento. In 2016 she graduated with a double degree with a bachelor thesis on the presentation of the "refugee crisis" in the BILD newspaper and on (media) populism. From October 2016 to September 2018, she studied sociology and political science in the Interdisciplinary Master's programme of the KU and wrote her Master's thesis on a Bavarian transit centre, an accommodation facility for asylum seekers with low prospects of remaining in Germany permanently.
Since October 2018 she has been working as a research associate at the Centre for Flight and Migration in the field of education and coaching, where she has been working as a part-time research assistant since February 2017. Within the scope of her work at the ZFM she is responsible for the development and supervision of educational offers and projects in the field of flight and migration. In addition, she holds courses in the Department of Sociology at the KU.
