Credit transfer request

Date of submitting request

In order to be able to submit a request, you must be enrolled at the KU.

The timing when you submit your application can also play an important role in planning your studies.

  • Early submission of request: Submitting a credit transfer request as early as possible in your studies (from enrollment at the earliest) will allow you to have a reliable overview of the modules you still need to take right at the start of your studies.
  • Submission in higher semesters: If a credit transfer request is submitted at a later stage of your studies, there is a risk that the maximum duration of study will be exceeded after the recognized examination results have been recorded and you have accordingly been allocated to a higher semester of study . This may mean that it is no longer possible to graduate successfully within the remaining period of study. After exceeding the maximum permissible length of the program, the respective degree program is deemed to be failed.

Please note: A credit transfer request can no longer be submitted once the student has already registered for and/or taken part in an examination for the relevant module. After your request has been approved by the Board of Examiners, you will only be able to repeat the module if it can expressly be chosen multiple times (Mehrfachwahl) or grade improvement is expressly permitted for the module in accordance with the examination regulations that apply to you.

Crediting level: Module to module

Here, credit transfer can only be effected at module level; partial credits are excluded. This means that the modules or skills for which credit transfer was requested must be of such a nature that the target module to which credit will be transferred can be considered to have been completed in full at the end of the crediting process.

Crediting level: Module to area

As a rule, a credit transfer request for skills or for recognition of achievements is only promising if there are suitable target modules for the skills or study achievements to be credited, which contain appropriate wordings in the module descriptions of the degree program in terms of the crediting criteria

In some degree programs at the KU, however, the examination regulations also offer the possibility of crediting skills or recognizing achievements that fit the overall concept of the degree program without the KU offering specific modules for this purpose. As a rule, these are degree programs that do not name specific modules in their examination regulations in the required elective or elective area, but refer to subjects or departments. In these cases, a request for recognition or crediting may be approved if it is foreseeable that the objectives of the degree program will also be achieved with the recognized or credited skills. In such a case, a request for recognition or crediting to a suitable required elective or elective area of the degree program can be submitted.

Please read your examination regulations carefully before submitting your request.
