Physical/online mobility phase

You can only receive an Erasmus+ grant for the physical mobility phase. If part of your internship takes place online and can be completed from Germany, you are not eligible for financial support for this period.

Erasmus+ program countries:
Irrespective of this, the total duration of the internship of at least 60 days and without a maximum time counts for the scholarship application.

Erasmus+ partner countries:
Irrespective of this, the total duration of the internship of at least 60 days and a maximum of 6 months counts for the scholarship application.

If you work from home during your internship in the target country (home office), this will count towards the physical parts of the mobility program.

Receiving support more than once

Yes, it is possible to receive funding more than once subject to the following conditions:

  • Multiple funding of internships is possible as long as the total duration does not exceed 12 months (within a study cycle, e.g. Bachelor’s or Master’s or after graduation in a new degree program) for program countries
  • Multiple funding of internships is not possible for partner countries

Special funding/top-up

Travel costs and Green travel

With the topic "Environment and Climate Change", Erasmus also aims to raise awareness among grantees and institutions relating to climate change and environmental protection, and regarding the ecological footprint that participants create during their mobility programs.

Green travel refers to travel that uses low-emission modes of transportation such as bus, rail, or carpooling for the majority of the trip .

There is no detailed list of possible means of transportation in the Erasmus+ program. Thus, travel by ship is also considered "green travel" if the location can otherwise only be reached by air (e.g. Ireland, Iceland, etc.).

The following modes of transportation are considered sustainable by the German Academic Exchange Service:

Die folgenden Verkehrsmittel werden vom DAAD als nachhaltig eingestuft:

  • Train
  • Carpooling
  • Bus
  • Bike
  • On foot
  • Ship

For project year 2023/2024: The amount of funding for Green Travel is a one-off € 50.00. In addition, up to four travel days are funded.
From project year 2024/2025: The one-off funding of € 50.00 will no longer apply. Here there is funding for up to a total of 6 six travel days for Green Travel.
In general, 2 travel days are funded for a standard trip. This applies both to internships in Erasmus+ program countries and to internships in Erasmus+ partner countries.

When applying, you undertake to keep the original proof of arrival/departure for 5 years and/or to submit it to the International Office of the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt for verification upon request.

Proof: e.g. travel tickets. Upload the copies of the proof in Mobility Online after the mobility.

Students whose internship abroad takes place in a partner country of regions 1 to 12 receive a travel allowance in addition to the travel days according to this table.

Participants with fewer opportunities

For internships from 01.11.2023 or ending after 01.11.2023 or from project year 2024/2025. The following applies to the funding of internships in Erasmus+ program countries:

General information

In addition to your Erasmus+ funding, you may be able to apply for a top-up for participants with fewer opportunities. The top-up amounts to 250.00 euros per month.

Please note: The top-ups for participants with fewer opportunities cannot be combined with each other. This means that even if you fulfill several of the following conditions, you can apply for a maximum grant of 250.00 euros.

Top-up for first-time graduates

Students can apply for this top-up if none of their parents or guardians has an academic degree (FH or university). A master craftsman's certificate is NOT counted as an academic degree in this context. However, courses of study completed abroad by a parent or legal guardian that are not recognized as such in Germany (e.g. physiotherapy) are counted as academic qualifications. In the case of single parents, this regulation only applies to the parent with whom the child lives.

Proof: Honorary declaration from your legal guardian or custodian (for single parents: the parent).

Top-up for working students

Students who have been continuously employed for at least six months prior to the start of their internship abroad and who are unable to continue this employment during their stay abroad are entitled to apply for this top-up. The following applies:

  • Monthly earnings between 450.00 - 850.00 euros (for project year 2023/2024) or 520.00 - 850.00 euros (from project year 2024/2025). The net earnings of all activities per month are added together; if different, the average value from six months applies.
  •  Exercise: At least 6 months consecutively, until at least three months before the start of the internship
  •  Notice of termination is not a requirement - the employment contract can also be paused.

Please note: Students who are self-employed and dual/part-time students with a fixed salary are unfortunately excluded from applying (the DAAD is currently discussing an amendment to this regulation).

Proof: payslip or tax certificate/tax return.

Top-up for students with child(ren)

Students who are traveling abroad for an internship with their child/children can apply for this top-up. The amount is independent of the number of children. When applying for this top-up, you undertake to submit proof that the child belongs to you and will be traveling with you. The additional funds can also be granted for couples. However, double funding for one child is excluded.

Note: Students with child(ren) can alternatively submit an application for real costs. In this case, the real costs must be fully documented. If you wish to apply for real costs, please contact the International Office of the KU at least three months before the start of the mobility.

Proof: Copy of the child's birth certificate and travel ticket.

Top-up for students with a disability (GdB of 20 or more) or chronic illness

Students with a degree of disability (GdB) of 20 or more and students with a chronic illness which is associated with additional financial needs abroad can apply for this top-up. When applying for this top-up, you undertake to submit proof of your disability or chronic illness (e.g. confirming medical certificate or disability card). In the case of a chronic illness, the medical certificate must state that you will incur additional financial expenses abroad as a result.

Note: Students with a disability (GdB of 20 or more) or chronic illness can alternatively apply for real costs. In this case, the real costs must be fully documented with receipts. If you wish to apply for real costs, please contact the International Office of the KU at least three months before the start of your mobility.

Proof:

  • Chronic illness: Medical certificate confirming that you have additional financial needs abroad due to your chronic illness. The type of illness and the amount of the additional need do not have to be noted or quantified.
  • Disability (GdB of 20 or more): Copy of disability certificate or medical certificate.
