Family Friendliness

The KU has embedded family friendliness as a core element of its mission statement, dedicating nearly two decades to enhancing the harmony between family life and the academic environment. It supports its students and its employees to lead a good life in and with families in all phases of life and qualification. In the last two years, KU and WFI introduced a range of progressive initiatives. For instance, in 2020, WFI introduced a KidsBox – a versatile mobile children's room, thoughtfully equipped for infants and children up to primary school age. This resource is accessible for employees who wish to bring their children to the workplace or require childcare arrangements for events, further facilitating the harmonization of family and professional life. Throughout the challenging COVID-19 crisis, KU promptly implemented multiple ongoing measures to support students, academic staff, and professors with children. To alleviate the strain on female employees caused by limited childcare options due to the pandemic-induced partial or complete closure of daycare centers, kindergartens, or elementary schools, we offered up to 30 additional hours of support upon request. Furthermore, female students, academic staff, and professors grappling with childcare challenges amid the pandemic received financial assistance for babysitting expenses when no other care alternatives were available or when parents opted against sending their child to a childcare facility due to safety concerns.
