Promotion of Young Researchers

The KU is a place of excellent scientific research and first choice for young researchers at all stages of their careers.

The Academic Careers Team at KU supports young researchers from doctoral studies to professorship by offering opportunities, networks, and transparency in academic career development. They collaborate with HR Development and the Women's and Equal Opportunities Officer.

Development and Professional Training

The HR Development and Professional Training department at KU offers tailored programs that align with the university's personnel and leadership guidelines. These include individual consultations, coaching, and a Lifelong Learning program covering areas like leadership and academic writing. External educational partnerships augment these offerings.

The Academic Careers Team provides comprehensive support to young researchers, including career counseling and skill-building workshops. Special attention is given to female junior researchers through specific mentoring and coaching initiatives. The team also organizes the Young Researchers Day to encourage networking among doctoral students and postdocs. KU takes additional steps to support female researchers with financial scholarships and specific aid for those returning from parental leave. This includes extra student assistant hours and childcare services during university events, making it easier for women researchers to balance work and family life.

Young Researchers Day

The Young Researchers Day is the annual central event for doctoral students and postdocs at KU.  The aim of the event is to promote internal KU networking among young researchers and thus also interdisciplinary exchange.

Tenure Track Model

The KU Tenure-Track program is a career development initiative focused on young academic leaders, aiming to balance research, teaching, and limited administrative tasks. It serves as a cornerstone of KU’s future hiring strategy, expanding recruitment options and offering a pathway to permanent positions for junior academics.
