Migration, Culture and Emotions in Latin America

Ximena Alba Villalever, Freie Universität Berlin, Germany

Ximena Alba Villalever is a researcher in the Latin American Institute of the Freie Universität Berlin, where she is coordinator of the Gender Studies profile of the Master on Interdisciplinary Latin American Studies. As an anthropologist, she has researched for more than a decade different processes of migration to Mexico, including Chinese transnational migration and forced  migration from Central America. Since 2024, she has been working on a new research project focusing on the role and impact of migrant organizations, care practices and strategies of survival for people on the move in Mexico, which she has been carrying out through collaborative and feminist methodologies. Within these fields, her research interests center on gender, inequality, globalization, violence and resistances.
