Verena Dolle is Professor of Romance Literatures and Cultures at Justus-Liebig University Gießen, where she also serves as Vice President for Teaching and Learning. Her research focuses on Latin American and Lusophone literatures from colonial times to the present, with special attention to urban literature, migration, transculturation, and the spatial turn in cultural studies. She has published on representations of violence, trauma, and identity in literature and film, as well as on Jewish-Latin American writing. Her work also examines the tension between the “American Dream” and the “European Dream” in Latin American cultural imaginaries. As editor and author, she has contributed to volumes on displacement, emotions, and transnational identities. In her lecture for the ZILAS Winter Lecture Series 2025/26, she will analyze how contemporary Latin American literature engages with the European Dream as both aspiration and critical reflection.
