French at the KU

The study of French refers to language, literature and culture, to history and all the regions, situations, texts and traditions in which French is used. The regional focus of the study is not only France but also Belgium, Switzerland and Luxembourg, Quebec, the Caribbean and Francophone Africa.

An essential component of the study is the deepening and broadening of one's own competence in French. To this end, you choose from a wide range of practical language courses taught by native French speakers. In studying for a Teaching Degree, questions of didactics are added, i.e. questions of language acquisition and the teaching of language, literature and culture. These topics are also interesting for activities outside of school, especially with regard to the promotion of intercultural competence in Adult Education, in business enterprises or social institutions.

All the disciplines and sub-disciplines involved offer a wide range of topics from which you can choose according to your interests and preferences, especially in the Bachelor's and Master's Programmes. In studying for a Teaching Degree, the modules from which you build your study are largely determined by the Teaching Studies Examination Regulations (LPO). However, individual specialisations are also possible here.

In all Degree Programmes and profiles (Bachelor, Master, studying for a Teaching Degree) you will acquire a wide range of skills in dealing with texts and media as well as the ability to assess public and private situations, to judge representations aesthetically and to work on them in oral and written communication in French. You will become an expert for the French-speaking regions of the world.
