Article on design of digital companions published in Pschology & Marketing (online first)

P&M

The article "Matching digital companions with customers: the role of perceived similarity" has been accepted for publication in Psychology & Marketing (VHB-Ranking B). The article is a joint work of Katja Gelbrich, together with Alina Kerath and Helen Chun (Professor at the Cornell University, USA).

The article deals with the ideal design of digital companions, which can nowadays be found in many areas of the customer journey. With the help of multiple experiments, the article shows that these digital companions should resemble their consumers - especially in terms of shared interest. The perceived similarity of human-like companions creates a bond, which in turn increases the enjoyment of the interaction.

A freely available version of the article can be found here: https://doi.org/10.1002/mar.21893

Article on the remedy management of product recalls published in the Journal of Business Research (online first)

The article "Remedy Management for Product Recalls in the Automotive Industry: How Car Dealers Should Time the Repair and Communicate its Outcome" has been accepted for publication in Journal of Business Research.  (VHB Ranking B). The article was co-authored by Katja Gelbrich with Dr. Sarah Voigt (former doctoral student at our chair) and Amin Nazifi (Professor at the University of Birmingham).

The article shows that car dealers’ current remedy processes for recalled vehicles are not well aligned with customer needs. Specifically, car dealers often delay the repair service for a recalled vehicle until next inspection for convenience reasons. However, customers prefer an immediate repair if they perceive a high risk. Furthermore, car dealers tend to veil the outcome of the repair service for a recalled vehicle as a value increase. However, customers want to be reassured that the risk has been eliminated.
